Given that manual handling is a widespread and long-standing health and safety problem, it is perhaps surprising that we don’t know exactly ‘what works’ when it comes to reducing the risk of injury. However, that still seems to be the case if a new report from Finland is a guide. The study, published in February on the British Medical Journal website, suggests that employers who simply rely on training in 'safe' lifting are not, contrary to what they might think, preventing workplace back injuries ...
