Here is a very sobering, and perhaps surprising, health and safety statistic. Annual deaths in the UK due to occupational ill-health may outnumber deaths due to workplace accidents by around 30 to one. Add to this the number of debilitated workers and absence due and workplace health problems dwarf workplace accidents.
