BS EN ISO 14121:2007 part 1 establishes the principles behind risk reduction objectives established in BS EN ISO 12100-1:2003 (Safety terminology for machinery).

The 2007 Standard includes the information required to enable risk assessment to be carried out, including procedures for identifying hazards and evaluating risk. There is also guidance on making decisions about the safety of machinery and the type of documentation required to verify a risk assessment. BSI says that ISO 14121 gives guidance for how to make decisions about the design of machinery and it will assist with the preparation of consistent ‘type-B’ and ‘type- C’ standards (so that machines can be produced that are safe for their intended use).
The new Standard replaces BS EN1050:1997. Copies are a sobering £118 unless you have secured a discount or a subscription and they can be obtained from: www.bsi-global.com/en/Shop/Publication- Detail/?pid=000000000030117528 (or call BSI on 0208 996 9001)
